Strong Minds Child, Youth and Family: Senior Case Worker – Permanent Full Time Role

The Strong Minds program within our Community Initiatives Team is funded by the Department of Social Services (DSS) under the Family Mental Health Support Service (FMHSS) program. It services three funded locations within in Western and South Western Sydney (SA3) with from our office at Auburn. This program offers early intervention supports to vulnerable families of children (birth to 18 years) who are at risk of or affected by mental illness to address risk factors and strengthen protective factors. Key aims include: improving children and young people’s mental health and wellbeing, enabling them to better manage impacts of mental illness and increasing community understanding of and response to mental health issues affecting children and young people.
- You will provide leadership, mentoring and your expertise to both developing and experienced Case Workers
- Work collaboratively to support the team by identifying training needs and building capacity, implementing quality improvements and evaluating the case review process of the program
- Provide long term intervention (approx. 12 months), quality complex case-management and evidence-based group interventions (non-clinical) to clients of the Strong Minds Program
- Build a collaborative culture with other agencies, mental health services, NGO’s and families to plan, coordinate and negotiate services for Strong Minds clients including implementation of Family Action Plans and other documents
- Undertake client advocacy, problem solving, case coordination and reporting as necessary to minimize harm to clients and others
- Ensure that services and quality client assessments are delivered in line with FMHSS Program and other funding and organisational policies and procedures
- Contribute to the development, continuous quality improvement and evaluation of family support strategies for children and young people by keeping up to date on research and best practice and participating in supervision
- Degree level qualifications in the areas of Social Work, Psychology, Social Sciences, Health or equivalent
- Minimum 5 years’ experience working with children and/or young people with mental illness and demonstrated knowledge of mental health issues
- Demonstrated experience delivering evidence-based group programs, in particular to disengaged young men and young women.
- Demonstrated quality complex case work, case management skills and evidence-based group work interventions, especially in a cross-cultural setting and within an early intervention context.
- Desirable -Staff supervision experience in Case Management
- Demonstrated understanding of how to holistically assess needs of clients, including conducting risk assessments and developing effective family action plans
- Understanding of safe work practices and management of risk.
- Demonstrated experience of working collaboratively as part of a multi- disciplinary team.
- Demonstrated experience at working with a variety of stakeholders to support better outcomes for clients
- A commitment to social justice principles
- A current Australian Drivers’ License and current and verified Working With Children Check and National Police Check
